The vision of the Cluster is to develop and exploit regional innovation and technology, in order to create new capabilities that enhance UK Defence and Security, whilst also increasing regional prosperity.

To this end, the Cluster aims to bring together regional entities that include defence and security organisations, government agencies, universities, research organisations and a diverse range of businesses, with a special focus on innovative startups and SMEs.

Academia Representatives, from two regional universities

Industry representatives, from two Defence and Security suppliers (“Primes”) and at least one regional SME.

On his appointment in December 2023, the Chair, Carew Wilks said:

“ I believe the RDSC initiative is a key enabler to improve the ways in which we can bring new and existing technology and innovation into defence and security capability, by increasing awareness of trends and opportunities, making connections between organisations, collaboration, and more effective engagement with the MOD and other Government agencies.  The Ox, Bucks and Chilterns region has some of our very best innovators and technical experts, with several key specialisms such as space technologies.  In addition to enhancing National security, the RDSC initiative will further develop the local communities and their prosperity through investment in technologies and people.”
